Volunteer: Food Club: Lead

As a Food Club Volunteer Lead, you'll join during regular volunteer shifts and float between a variety of volunteer roles at Food Club. Plan to check in with a Food Team member at the beginning of your shift to see what is needed, or decide for yourself what you'd like to work on! As you become more comfortable, you'll lead new volunteers & volunteer groups. You may also collaborate with the Food Team to work on other special projects. Closed-toe shoes are recommended at Food Club.

As a Shopping Floor Volunteer, you'll work in various roles such as assisting checkout volunteers, stocking the shelves with dry goods & produce, restocking the freezers & coolers, shelf organizing, checking quality/dates of food, cleaning, and other special projects. Volunteers in this role should expect interacting with guests during open hours! Tasks performed will depend on the needs of the Food Club team. Closed-toe shoes are recommended at Food Club.

As a Meal Kit Prep Volunteer, you'll work to prepare recipes and materials, portion out and label ingredients, and pack and stock meal kits. Meal kits are part of our Healthy@Home programming at the Food Club, and provide members with easy, fast, and healthier meal options or ideas! On your first shift, you'll work with the Healthy@Home Coordinator to learn the process, and then you'll be able to create your own meal kits! Closed-toe shoes are recommended at Food Club. Learn more about Food Club here!

As a Checkout Station volunteer, you'll need to attend this training ahead of scheduling your first Checkout shift, in order to make sure you're set up for success! This training takes place on-site at Food Club with a staff member who will walk through our Point of Sale (POS) system used at the Checkout Station. You'll learn the essentials, go through some FAQ's, have time to practice hands-on with the Checkout System, and even role-play a purchase interaction! Closed-toe shoes are recommended at Food Club.

Volunteer: Volunteer at Nelis' Dutch Village Opening Day & Community Day Food Drive 2026

Each year, Nelis' Dutch Village in Holland hosts a Community Food Drive for their opening day. This year, the event will take place on Saturday, April 18th, from 10am - 3pm, and Community Action House is once again the recipient of the donations of the Food Drive! 

As a Volunteer at Nelis' Dutch Village Food Drive, you'll help sort & pack nonperishable food donations received on that day, hand out raffle tickets to visitors, and be on site to represent Community Action House. This is an outdoor event & will occur rain or shine. We will be sheltered by the tent and truck set up, but dress for all weather possibilities! We're providing snacks and water, but feel free to bring whatever fuels you (coffee, etc.). Please note this volunteer opportunity takes place at Nelis' Dutch Village (12350 James St, Holland, MI 49424).

Volunteer: Help Sort Food at the Postal Food Drive!

As a part of the National Association of Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive, our local post office is teaming up with our Holland community to gather food donations for shelters, food pantries, and other agencies which offer assistance to those in need. We need volunteers to help sort the food donated by our generous community on Saturday, May 16th! Volunteers in this role must be able to lift and move bags/boxes of food. Plan to be standing for the entire shift. Join us in the Salvation Army warehouse in Holland (104 Clover St.) to help sort these donations.

Shifts are as follows:

10:30am-1:30pm: Setting up and sorting donated items 

1:30pm-4:30pm: Sorting donated items 

4:30pm-6pm: Sorting donated items and cleaning up at the Salvation Army
